Philanthropy
Between January and June 2007, a study by Camfed found that 7,400 Cama members were supporting the education of more that 23,500 children. This is just one expression of Cama members’ philanthropy and it began spontaneously soon after Cama’s foundation in 1998.
A chance meeting at a bus stop or the village bore-hole, Cama members make children’s circumstances their business. They see in the child in rags themselves as they once were. There earn their own income to make sure children, boys and girls, go to school. As mentors and role models, the actions of Cama members resonate through their communities and multiply the investment made by Camfed in their education.
