Allison Pearson launches the Class of 2010 Appeal

On June 8th, journalist and best-selling author Allison Pearson launched Camfed’s Appeal for the Class of 2010, to raise support for 2,000 girls to complete school by 2010. In her inimitable style, Allison told the audience of successful women and men in London how over two generations women in Britain have changed their status through education, and how girls in Africa can do the same today with Camfed’s help. Raising funds for school shoes

Nancy Robinson was one of 22 intrepid Camfed supporters who pulled on their running shoes and braved sizzling temperatures last month to run the British 10k London Run to help girls make the long journey to school in rural Africa. (more…)

Art auction for Camfed

Two doctoral students from York persuaded artists from as far afield as the USA and Malawi to donate works of art for an auction in support of Camfed. In one night, they raised more than £5,000 for girls’ education in Africa. (more…)

Celebrate and support mothers in Zimbabwe this Mothering Sunday

In Zimbabwe, hundreds of thousands of children will not be celebrating Mother’s Day this year. Nearly one million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS. And 3,000 more people are dying from AIDS every week. Traditional safety nets are unravelling. Extended family and communities are struggling to care for the thousands of children who are left without parents. (more…)

Pioneers for change

Women financiers gathered last month to hear how Camfed is turning the tide of poverty in rural communities across sub-Saharan Africa by educating girls. The Competitor Diversity Forum (CDF) was set up by female managing directors from the world’s leading investment banks to promote women in the financial services industry. At their annual charity dinner in London, these high-flying women heard from Camfed’s Executive Director Ann Cotton and Camfed patron Allison Pearson – prize-winning journalist and author of I Don’t Know How She Does It.
