Last month, I was sitting in the headmaster’s office of a primary school in Samfya, in the heart of rural Zambia. Mr Ben Charma leads 46 teachers in his school of 1,700 children, more than half of whom have been orphaned by AIDS. (more…)

Camfed and the other members of the Make Poverty History Campaign will join thousands of others as the leaders of the world’s richest countries gather in Scotland for the G8 Summit. As part of the campaign, Camfed has been fighting to make sure the politicians know that girls’ education is the best way to Make Poverty History! An exhibition celebrating the remarkable achievements of young African women
In 2005, girls’ education is the focus of international attention as the Millennium Development Goal for gender equity in education is brought under the spotlight. To mark the start of this important year and to celebrate the power of education, Camfed, with support from UNICEF, DFID, the Make Poverty History campaign and the Commonwealth Secretariat, launched the photographic exhibition Focus on Success as a major contribution to UNGEI - the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative.
