Denton Wilde Sapte: Why we chose Camfed

Howard MorrisDenton Wilde Sapte is an international law firm with over 750 lawyers and a network of offices spanning the globe. Here Chief Executive Howard Morris talks to us about why his company has chosen to offer his firm’s services to Camfed on a pro bono basis.

When we established our pro bono policy in 2005, we considered how to select which charities we would work with, and decided to support those whose work would contribute towards meeting the United Nations’ millennium development goals.

We also aim to support the communities where we work, so we are keen to work with charities that have a similar geographical footprint to our own.

We chose to work with Camfed because of the excellent work it does in bringing education to African girls. In doing so, it is working towards many of the UN’s millennium goals. Camfed directly provides education and promotes gender equality as it helps in the fight against poverty and disease. The relationship also allowed us to use our strong links with leading African law firms and organisations to support Camfed.

We’re proud to provide Camfed with pro bono advice. Educating young girls makes an impact on the communities in which they live. It can help to provide securer futures, increases self-respect and an awareness of health risks. Camfed’s focus on female education in some of the world’s poorest rural communities is important because girls are often excluded from education, leaving them with far fewer choices and opportunities in life.

We hope the support we give enables Camfed to continue offering its education and mentoring services, and that it may also give you the opportunity to help more communities.
