Camfed on BBC Radio 4 this Christmas Day

This Christmas Day, listen out for Camfed’s Christmas Appeal on BBC Radio 4. Lastminute.com founder and Camfed patron Martha Lane Fox will be delivering Camfed’s Christmas message for the first time at 07.55am on December 25th and you can also listen online by clicking here. So don’t forget to tune in!

Martha will speak about how the opportunity of a good education set her on the path to success and gave her the resources she needed to save her life when she was injured in a terrible car crash last year.

For many young women in rural Africa, there is no safety net to catch them when things go wrong. Martha will tell the story of a young woman called Runyararo from Zimbabwe, who almost had to leave school when her father contracted TB. But now, thanks to Camfed’s support though secondary school and university, Runyararo works as a paediatrician in Harare General Hospital.

Martha will urge Radio 4 listeners to help Camfed to give more girls like Runyararo an education this Christmas.

“I am proud of my Patronage of Camfed; the strength of the young women supported through their education programme is inspirational,” says Martha.

“Camfed are leading the way in providing the necessary resources to encourage these young women through school. I feel fortunate to have received a great education and the opportunities it gave me; these young women deserve the same.”
