During May, teachers from 4 schools in East Anglia embarked on the trip of a lifetime to visit children and teachers in their remote partner schools in northern Ghana. The UK teachers have spent the last 2 years bringing the spirit of Africa to their classrooms with pupils in the UK and Ghana exchanging letters, drawings and poems as part of Camfed’s Schools Partnership Project. Camfed and the other members of the Make Poverty History Campaign will join thousands of others as the leaders of the world’s richest countries gather in Scotland for the G8 Summit. As part of the campaign, Camfed has been fighting to make sure the politicians know that girls’ education is the best way to Make Poverty History! The heat and sun can get to us all at times, but imagine if you were trying to get to school, on foot in Mola – a dry rural area of Zimbabwe. Now imagine that your skin lacks the defences to protect you against the sun and you are constantly at risk of sunstroke and burning. Camfed is pulling together with the community in Mola to help 10 albino children in Mola get the protection they need to walk to school safely each day. (more…)
